Your site is georgious, it's got the perfect professional lay out. It's neatly organized, and set up in a way that I can only envy being able to do. I read some of your poetry, skimmed through your theories and must say I am truly impressed. Your website is one of the better websites on the internet, and deserves recognition of the fullest kind. Please continue what you're doing, it's beautiful.

do you notify via email, any new papers or discussions? I love the site, but it's difficult to get to a port for downloads -- it'd be convenient to have that option

Hey there... I read that guy's review of your film reviews. I am a film buff myself, and I think have a slightly more mature taste than both of you (but then of course I am pretty concieted myself), but I also appreciate that while your film appreciation could be better, you are entitled to review movies. Anyway, my point was going to be, before I started randomly talking about myself (which is a thing I generally do - because I have this pretty big ego and all), damn, I did it again. Okay, point is that you seem to miss movies cinematically and solely review them by plot. Film, like any art, requires a language, semiotics. This language has rules, and only the correct usage of this language can produce visually stimulating and substantial movies. Not to say that the "Form" of a film is everything, but the cinematics of the film most be taken to account, otherwise, cinema is reduced to a popculture trend. Email me I would love to chat with you someday.

Site looks very good and is easy to navigate. Writing has some interesting ideas but has a tendency towards pretention rather than genuine insight. Use of grammar could do with some work as well. Good luck in the future and keep at it - you'll get better.

I would not normally do this, but I have to say, your criticism of movies is about as sharp as a marble. It's not that you gave "Star Wars" an 8, it's not that you gave "She's All That" a 9, it's that you watch a movie and pick out the exact wrong things to criticize. I thought your reviews came off as conceited and closed-minded. Try this: the next time you watch a movie, try to enjoy it rather than mentally citing all the ways you think it could be improved.

REPLY: Sorry, can't do that, as a thinking being I'm prone to criticizing what I don't like, what I think could be improved. Sitting back and just passively consuming something isn't quite my bag. The result of my reflections naturally has to be subjective, of course you may disagree, even if I bash your darling SW. Actually, I even think I'm generally way too positive with my reviews, would they be any sharper, SW would get something resembling a 4. So I'm trying to be benevolent. If uttering my opinion on something that's available to the public comes to you as conceited and close-minded, I suggest you get a web site of your own and make your opinion available. I have every right in the world to criticize or praise anything I want to, and so has anybody else, you included. That's not conceited, it's called freedom of speech. If I were "conceited", I wouldn't even answer to that or even better delete your comment from this guest book in the first place. I'm commenting here openly because you didn't leave me with an e-mail-address of yours, which you should have done to at least allow me the chance to defend myself. And if you really believe I'm that close-minded, you obviously haven't read enough of my stuff. PJK, 09/03/2001 - see also my essay
